What Is Two-Thread Fleece Fabric?

Two-thread fleece fabric is one of the most widely used types of knitted fabrics in the textile industry, named after the two different yarn sets used in its production. The fabric’s front side has a smooth, clean appearance, while the back side is thicker and has a fuller texture. This double-layered structure is formed by interlacing a ground yarn and a backing yarn, giving the fabric both durability and a soft, comfortable inner surface. Thanks to these properties, two-thread fleece has become an essential fabric for sweatshirts, tracksuits, and other casual and sportswear garments.

Characteristics of Two-Thread Fleece Fabric

Soft Inner Surface and Heat Retention

The backing yarn on the inner side is usually made of cotton or a cotton blend, giving the fabric a soft and comfortable touch against the skin. The dense structure traps air pockets that improve thermal insulation, helping the body stay warm.

Full-Bodied and Structured Appearance

Since it’s knitted using two yarns, the fabric is thicker and more voluminous than single-jersey fabrics like suprem. This gives garments a more substantial and stylish drape.

100% Cotton Two-Thread Fleece: Made entirely from natural cotton yarns, this fabric is breathable, skin-friendly, and exceptionally soft. It’s especially preferred for baby and children’s wear.

95% Cotton / 5% Elastane Two-Thread Fleece: By adding 5% elastane (lycra), this version gains enhanced elasticity and recovery. It’s ideal for sportswear and tracksuit bottoms that require flexibility and a perfect fit.
